About Our Logo

Although our founders' last name is Sparkman, we didn't set out to create a logo that included a "spark" and a "man." It just happened!

Born out of this logo is the recognition that, while our tools are keyboards, hard drives, monitors, cameras and other recording devices, our skills are those of craftsmen.

In fact, embedding the word "spark" into our company name had nothing to do with the fact that our (i.e. my biz partner/co-founder/brother, Kevin) last name included the same.

However, out of a long list of names (which I wish, for historical purposes, I could find), a name incorporating "fusion" and "spark" kept sticking out as one of the best options.

To me, "fusion" worked well because we were doing just that -- fusing together myriad types of content and marketing concepts to create the kind of interactive, web-based storytelling that first got us started in 1999. And "spark" -- well, it resonates with meaning, as in the "creative spark."

So, we decided upon Fusionspark Media for our company name. And, for a long time -- too long -- we relied upon a really boring font for the Fusionspark logotype that in no way, shape or form embodied the concepts behind our company name. We always put off to the next year the development of a real logo.

When we finally got around to it, in early 2008, I turned to friend and neighbor Chris Baldwin, of Chris Baldwin Design to create our new logo.

Chris and I met and discussed Fusionspark Media -- who we are, what we represent, what we do, etc. -- in order to try to identify that key idea, that core concept, that logo designers seek as inspiration for their designs.

We talked about a lot of things, but the one thing that I didn't say to Chris was that, in my mind's eye, I sometimes envisioned our Fusionspark logo incorporating a "spark" and a "man."

I think that it's a tribute to Chris' skill as a logo designer that amongst the eight or nine logo concepts that he presented, one popped right off the page, and that's the one that we use today.

Not only did he perceive, without prompting, what was in my "mind's eye," but he made a valuable contribution to our own self-awareness of who we are.

Born out of this logo was the recognition that, while our tools are keyboards, hard drives, monitors, cameras and other recording devices, our skills are those of craftsmen. The people who work with Fusionspark Media have honed their skills, from content strategy and content development, to programming to video editing, honed over decades much like a woodworker, a metalworker, a glassblower, etc., hones their skills.

And that's the story behind the craftsmanship that went into our logo!
