Tom Kennedy

With 35 years of experience in print and online visual journalism, Tom Kennedy is an internationally known consultant and speaker on visual journalism and multimedia topics. Currently, he is consulting with several universities on courses for multimedia content development, documentary video storytelling, and news website management. He is also working with various organizations to train individuals and teams on multimedia story creation, production, publication and distribution strategies going beyond the web itself as a platform. He regularly teaches at multimedia conferences, and advises about recruiting, coaching, and managing creative talent for optimal performance.

Tom was, 1998 to 2009, the Director of Multimedia at WashingtonPost.com (WPNI). While at WPNI, Tom not only built their first multimedia storytelling capacity, but set standards for multimedia storytelling for professional journalists. Prior to his work at the Washington Post, Tom was the Director of Photography at National Geographic for 10 years. Tom is a frequent panelist and speaker at multimedia conferences and workshops sponsored by university journalism schools, the NPPA (National Press Photographers Association), and annually at the Eddie Adams Photo Workshop.

Today, Tom is a consultant providing expertise on all aspects of visual journalism for companies seeking to use online and mobile platforms and social networks to connect with audiences and grow business opportunities.

Brent Friedman

Partner, Electric Farm Entertainment
After living and working in Hollywood - in Film, TV and Videogames - for two decades, Brent migrated to the Northwest, out of Old Media and into New Media. He is a founding partner in Electric Farm Entertainment, a leading digital media company specializing in science fiction.

Brent created, wrote and produced EFE's first two groundbreaking webseries, Afterworld and Gemini Division, distributed by Sony and NBC respectively. Brent is presently serving as Exec Producer on EFE's next webseries, Woke Up Dead, done in conjunction with Sony. He is also the Co-Creator and Exec Producer of Valemont, EFE's collaboration with MTV. Upcoming is Prophet, another webseries Brent Created and will Produce for Disney.

John du Pre Gauntt

Author, Consultant, Technologist
John du Pre Gauntt is the founder of Media Dojo, a blog focusing on the intersection of cloud computing and digital media/marketing. Previously, he was senior mobile analyst for eMarketer, where he covered mobile media and mobile marketing. He founded several research and communications firms focused on mobile technology, and worked on marketing research projects for LME Ericsson, NTT DoCoMo, Google and PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Gauntt was also a business editor for The Economist Group in London and a corporate trainer for Matsushita Electric Corporation in Osaka, Japan. He holds a MS in Information Systems from the London School of Economics and a BA degree in English and American literature from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.

Joe Pulizzi

Founder, Junta 42; Author, Get Content, Get Customers
Joe Pulizzi considers himself a content marketing evangelist. If it's related to content marketing, you'll most likely find Joe in the middle of the conversation. Joe started using a strange term - content marketing - back in the early 2000's. Today, content marketing is a well-known philosophy that is driving the most effective marketing programs on the planet.

Previously an executive for Penton Media, Inc., Joe founded Junta42 to help marketers create and develop better content marketing. Joe serves as Chief Content Officer for Junta42, in addition to being President of Z Squared Media, LLC (Junta42's parent company). Junta42 is the "eHarmony for content projects", matching up businesses in need of custom content with expert content providers.

Joe is also co-author of the book Get Content Get Customers (McGraw-Hill), which helps teach businesses why and how to create their own compelling content to drive their businesses. Get Content Get Customers has been called THE handbook for content marketing. Joe also serves on the board for the Custom Publishing Council.
An accomplished speaker, Joe travels around North America and Europe teaching audiences about content, publishing and social media. Alexis Gerard

Founder, Future Image Report
Gerard founded Future Image in 1991 and 6Sight LLC in 2006, after holding executive positions in new technologies and software marketing with Apple Computer from 1983 to 1990.

For the past fifteen years leaders inside and outside the imaging industry have relied on his visionary thinking about the convergence of imaging with information and telecommunications technology. He is the co-author of "Going Visual - Using Images to Enhance Productivity, Decision Making and Profits", (John Wiley and Sons, 2005). His opinions have been quoted at various times in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Boston Globe, San Francisco Chronicle, International Herald Tribune, USA Today, Financial Times, Newsweek, Business Week, American Photo, and many others.

He chaired the inaugural conference of the Digital Imaging Marketing Association in 1995, the Future Image/Forbes Visual Communication Executive Summit in 2002, Future Image's Mobile Imaging Summit since 2003 and, since 2006, the 6Sight(r) Future of Imaging conference.

Gerard is a member of the International Advisory Council of the George Eastman House. From 1997 to 1998, he was President and Executive Director of the Digital Imaging Group (DIG), an open non-profit industry consortium founded by Adobe, Canon, Eastman Kodak, Fuji, Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Intel, Live Picture and Microsoft to promote the growth of digital imaging into mainstream markets, now merged into the I3A.

Robert Gilman

President, Context Institute
Robert Gilman is an authentic "rocket scientist." He received his bachelor's in astronomy from the University of California at Berkeley in 1967 and his Ph.D. in astrophysics from Princeton University in 1969. He taught and did research at the University of Minnesota, the Harvard Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and served as a Research Associate at NASA's Institute for Space Studies.

In 1979 he founded the Context Institute, one of the earliest NGOs to focus directly on sustainability. In 1983 Context Institute began publishing IN CONTEXT, A Quarterly of Humane Sustainable Culture, with Robert as the editor. IN CONTEXT became internationally acclaimed and in 1991 and 1994 won the Utne Readers Alternative Press Award for "Best Coverage of Emerging Issues."

Robert's present work draws on all phases of his life as he helps groups and individuals transform their own lives while they help move the planet toward a humane and sustainable future.

Russell Sparkman

Pres./CEO, Fusionspark Media, Inc.
Russell is a co-founder of Fusionspark Media, Inc. He holds an undergraduate degree in Political Science from Northeastern University, in Boston, and has worked most of his professional life as a photographer and visual communications expert.

Russell was staff photographer at Northeastern University for six years before becoming an instructor at the Kodak Center for Creative Imaging in Camden, Maine. In 1993, Russell moved to Nagoya, Japan, where he was a sought-after author and speaker on digital imaging trends and a technology consultant for clients that included Toyota and Seiko Epson.

Russell founded Fusionspark Media in 1999 in Japan, and moved the business to Whidbey Island in 2000. From inception, Fusionspark Media has been focused on the use of inspirational, authentic online storytelling in corporate, non-profit and government communications. Russell has played key roles in all FSM projects including executive producer, chief photographer, information architect and project manager. Fusionspark Media clients have included the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, Wyeth Pharmaceuticals, Dive Rite, Inc., the Island County Tourism Committee and more.

Russell is on the Board of Directors of the Jackson Hole Wildlife Film Festival and the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts.a

Marcia Hofmann

Staff Attorney, Electronic Frontier Foundation
Marcia Hofmann is a staff attorney at the Electronic Frontier Foundation working on a broad range of technology-related civil liberties and intellectual property issues. Prior to joining EFF, she was Staff Counsel and Director of the Open Government Project at the Electronic Privacy Information Center. She is a graduate of the University of Dayton School of Law and Mount Holyoke College.

George Henny

Co-CEO, Whidbey Telecom and Fibercloud
George Henny is co-CEO of Whidbey Telecom, and also serves on its Board of Directors. Mr. Henny is also co-CEO of FiberCloud, Inc., a regional internet data center company with three locations in Seattle, Everett and Bellingham, Washington, USA. Mr. Henny founded the Internet division of Whidbey Telecom in 1994, and spearheaded the deployment of broadband service in 2000, and the development of FiberCloud, Inc. in 2001.

Mr. Henny continues to be a driving force in the deployment of advanced technology initiatives within the enterprise. Mr. Henny holds a BA in Drama in 1989 and MBA in 1998 from the University of Washington. Mr. Henny is Past President of the Rotary Club of South Whidbey 2008-2009, is a board member of Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA) and the Island County Economic Development Council.

Joseph M. Tringali

Co-Founder, General Manager 5TH Cell Media
Joseph co-founded 5TH Cell in 2003 along with Jeremiah Slaczka and Brett Caird. A developer of original IP titles, 5TH Cell is responsible for the 2007 Nintendo DS million seller, Drawn to Life, as well as the upcoming critically acclaimed emergent title, Scribblenauts.


Before 5TH Cell, Joseph was an Associate Producer in Hong Kong for En-Tranz Entertainment, supporting a pan-Asian Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game, and before that, employed with Funcom inc. as an Events Writer. Joseph attended the University of Delaware.
